Background to the Project

Ely Museum has had an East Anglian Film Archive (EAFA) compilation for many years, which has always been popular with visitors. As part of a £2.2 million redevelopment, funded by the National Lottery Heritage fund and many other supporters the Museum wanted to refresh the compilation and put it on to their ‘Hub’ interactive screens for visitors to access.

Project Requirement

‘We were looking to create a film compilation for an AV presentation and specifically needed help with sourcing appropriate archive film clips and pulling them together, with subtitles.  We naturally approached EAFA and their archive services, to help us with this.

Archive Services Used

The Museum provided EAFA with a brief  to update their current film compilation and EAFA helped them in researching a range of relevant film titles. They then cleared copyright and edited the compilation.

‘We were able to comment on a draft of the film and  input into the order of the films which was great. EAFA then added logos and intertitles and also subtitles to the film in order to ensure it is as accessible as possible for our visitors. The team advised us on the licensing of the film and the tech work and once the film was completed they provided us with a licence agreement so that we can use the film for a number of years at the museum.’

The Outcomes

‘The project has provided us with a high quality, interesting compilation that we can share with visitors to Ely Museum to help them enjoy and learn about local heritage. We look forward to our returning visitors enjoying the experience. The archive services from EAFA were super and we highly recommend them to anyone engaging in a heritage project of this kind.’
